Boffi Kitchen Description
The Boffi Salinas was the first kitchen design project for Patricia Urquiola in 2014. On the product she recalls: “Salinas is the beach of my childhood, a long sandy beach with dunes along the Bay of Biscay, Asturias, with huge, crashing waves and intense colours. The kitchen in my grandfather’s house, which commanded a view of that very beach, brings back fond memories of those moments.”
The light, tactile nature of this creative kitchen vision has been awarded Best Kitchen in the 2015 Wallpaper* Design Awards and 2015 EDIDA as well as an honourable mention in 2016 at “Compasso D’Oro ADI”.
Boffi Salinas Features
“I imagined a kitchen made of tactile, concrete and real materials. Able to create articulated compositions and different dimensions, but always with all the necessary tools ready for use.” This intention by Patricia Urquiola was realized with the natural, eco-sustainable materials (including lava) used in the features of Boffi’s Salinas. The unit is interactive and almost playful, with pieces that fit together as if in a customizable puzzle.
The tubular structure is modular and offers complete and functional composition. The light structure can be customized with two different heights (suspended or floor-mounted), aluminum door frame with material decoration (PaperStone, wood, lacquers), worktops in ceramic, decorated lava, or lasermat in various colors, overtop structure in tubular metal with hangers, shelves, LED lights, exclusively designed stone sink, peninsula tables in solid wood (fixed, pull-out, or slidable for a snack table). Storage trench for small accessories as well as LED lighted metal shelves. Wall units and new materials (metals, concrete, glass) were added in 2015.
Boffi Italy Materials
This product may be customized in a number of ways by altering the material and manner of each element. The base unit structure consists of tubular metal in matt black with sides and internal shelves in sheet metal. Base units can have hinged doors, pull-out or internal drawers. Doors have an aluminum frame with matt black finishing with panels available in PaperStone, water-painted ash wood, walnut painted with oil, or colored glass. Worktops are available in ceramic in Dekton ceramic (concrete grey or Ardesia black), Lasermat in 6 muted hues, standard Boffi stone (marble or granite), or Nerosicilia, which is a decorated, glazed lava with geometric design by Urquiola and made exclusively for this project.
The textured concrete is available in four colors including light grey, grey Londra, beige Luxor, and Beaver Ottawa. The lacquered metals are available in copper, brass, zinc, or aluminum. Glass may be laminated with interior fabric, brown, or transparent frosted.
