Plant of the ground floor of the villa in Lagos designed by our Italian interior designer

A Lagos home with an Italian workshop behind it

This project brings modern luxury interior design in Lagos, and gives us the chance to show a Made in Italy home while it is still being built. It is also a clear example of what working with an Italian interior designer in Nigeria means to us: one team accompanying the project from concept to completion, with the same care at every stage.

Every element of the house, from floors and bathrooms to windows and furniture, is for our Italian design in Nigeria. At this stage the house is being built with the utmost care and attention to details. It’s he moment when every decision made will shape the project into a home.

Materials: selection, supply and installation

Materials are where every project begins. They shape our approach to every luxury interior design project, wherever we work — from Lagos or elsewhere. For this house the palette changes between living and sleeping areas, each chosen for a different purpose.

Living areas. A polished Bianco Covelano marble, veined with gold, runs through the day areas — chosen for the way it catches the light across large, open spaces.

Sleeping areas. In the bedrooms, the choice shifts to a high-traffic oak parquet, selected for its resistance to daily wear without giving up warmth underfoot.

Bathrooms. Natural stone throughout, though not the same stone everywhere: some bathrooms are finished in Crema d’Orcia, others in Carrara marble, each with its own cut and pattern, so no two rooms read the same way.

We believe materials matter more when a future homeowner chooses them with their own hands, not from a swatch or a photograph. So we took them north, into the mountains above Lake Resia, down into the very quarry where Covelano marble has been cut from the rock for over a century and a half — the highest marble quarry in Europe. Walking into that cave is an experience that stays with you: the cold hush of stone instead of air, veins of white and grey running through walls lit just enough to catch every shade, a single slab chosen on the spot rather than from a catalogue. It’s one of the most thrilling mornings a client can spend on this journey, and we extend the same invitation to every person we work with.

From site survey to installation. Nothing is ordered from a catalogue. Every measurement is taken on site, so that each piece — from the largest window to the smallest detail — is designed, produced in Italy and installed exactly as conceived.

High-insulation windows and doors

The openings are where a house wins or loses its comfort. The project includes sliding doors, windows, glazed façades and canopies, all designed for high thermal insulation.

High-insulation windows and doors reflect the same standard applied throughout the house, in performance as much as in design — part of what modern luxury interior design means in a climate like Lagos. It is also a matter of sustainability — reducing energy consumption without giving up the large, uninterrupted glass surfaces the house was designed around.

A suspended staircase, entirely made in Italy

There is a moment, in every great project, when engineering stops being technical and becomes sculpture. This staircase is that moment: steel and wood suspended in the air, each step seeming to hold itself by nothing more than balance and intention.

Seen from below, it reads almost as a single gesture — cold metal tracing a line through warm wood, gravity acknowledged and quietly defied. Every joint is considered until it disappears, every proportion weighed until it feels inevitable, as if there were no other way it could have been made.

It is, in every sense, a masterpiece of restraint: nothing added that isn’t necessary, nothing necessary left unresolved. Conceived, engineered and produced entirely in Italy, and carried across continents to be installed exactly as it was imagined.

Interior design taking shape, room by room

While the structure is still being built on site, the design of the interiors is already finished in Italy. Rooms such as the master bedroom and the private study, shown here as examples, follow the same material language that runs through the whole project: warm neutrals, natural stone, oak and brushed metals, built for comfort rather than display.

The master bedroom is designed around a soft, enveloping palette: upholstered bed and armchairs in warm neutrals, wide-plank oak flooring, and sheer full-height curtains that let daylight fill the room without harsh contrast. A pair of slim pendant lights hang on either side of the bed.

The private study takes the same palette in a more structured direction: full-height stone wall panels, built-in oak bookshelving with backlit display niches, and a sculptural desk, paired with soft seating and a slim floor lamp. A sofa in a warmer tone gives the room a second, more relaxed seating area, so it works as both a workspace and a place to receive guests.

Furnishing the interiors, piece by piece

Every interior is furnished as part of one coherent project, all of it designed by our Italian interior designers for this Nigeria project— the same approach our Italian interior designers working in Nigeria brings to every room. Some pieces come from high-end Italian brands, in some cases customized to the project’s specifications, while others pieces are fully developed with Italian designer workshops. The goal either way is continuity: the same materials and tones seen in the bedroom and study carry through the rest of the house, so it reads as a single space rather than a collection of separately decorated rooms.

Outdoor: pool, waterfall, lounge and dining

The garden is designed to live in and to host guests, part of the same modern luxury interior design brought to the rest of this Lagos home. The plan includes a swimming pool with a waterfall, a lounge area and a dining area, all designed in-house as part of the architecture from the ground up. On site, the pool excavation is already taking place.

The same continuity carries outside: outdoor furniture is designed and supplied as part of the same project, in the same materials and tones as the interiors, so the garden reads as an extension of the house rather than a separate space.

Lagos Project: Frequently Asked Questions

Which Italian interior design studio can design a luxury villa in Lagos, Nigeria?

Esperiri, the Milan-based Italian interior design studio and furniture supplier, is designing this private villa in Lagos as a complete Made in Italy project. The studio has finalised the interiors in Italy while the house is being built, from the living areas and master suite to the study, the staircase and the pool with its waterfall.

Where can I source Italian furniture, marble and doors for a villa in Lagos?

From Esperiri, which is supplying this villa with everything from Italy: furniture, windows and doors, the staircase, outdoor elements and natural stone. Materials were selected at an Italian quarry, including gold-veined Bianco Covelano marble for the living areas, and Carrara marble and Crema d’Orcia stone for the bathrooms.

How does Esperiri design a villa while it is still under construction?

By working in parallel with the build. Esperiri took measurements on site, finalised the interior design in Italy and is producing every element to those dimensions, so windows, doors, staircase and furniture are ready when the house is. This avoids delays and ensures each piece fits the architecture exactly.

Can Esperiri supply windows, doors and staircases as well as furniture?

Yes, and the Lagos villa shows it. Alongside furniture, Esperiri is producing the windows and doors, the staircase in stone, steel and wood, and the outdoor spaces, all designed and made in Italy and installed by Italian craftsmen. A single team handles the whole Italian interior design project, from architecture to the last object.
