The story of the armchair D 151.4 has distant origins: it all began with the nautical world and industrial progress. It was from this encounter with the ocean that Gio Ponti became passionate about nautical furnishings.
During the second half of 1900, the great Italian designer and architect, experimented his creativity in the field of naval design. Between 1949 and 1951, in fact, Ponti gained direct experience in four ocean liners and two cruise ships upgraded or built from scratch after the war: Conte Grande, Africa, Oceania, Conte Biancamano, Andrea Doria and Giulio Cesare. The idea for the design of D 151.4 armchair was born.

The soft lines of the ocean combined with the strength of the manufacturing industry give life to Molteni D 151.4, an armchair with an unmistakable and inimitable design. The curves of the armrests and the wrap-around backrest are harmoniously integrated into a solid, well thought-out structure.
Here too, the high technology sought after by Molteni&C manifests itself in all its splendour, giving the D 151.4 armchair a noble and elegant character at the same time. The softness of the upholstery contrasts with the rigidity and linearity of the wooden feet and brass tips, creating a continuous play of contrasts.
D.151.4 Armchair Materials
Molteni D 151.4 is an armchair with armrests and removable covers, both in the fabric and leather versions. Molteni's catalogue of materials is really extensive and you can choose from a wide range of colours and textures, from the brightest to the most neutral or darkest tones whether you decide for leather or fabric.
The structure and seat of the armchair are in canaletto walnut and the end tips of the feet are in brass with non-slip plastic ground supports. Finally, the upholstered seat and backrest of D 151.4 armchair are in moulded polyurethane injected with elastic belts to ensure greater comfort.
